St Lucia
St Lucia
St Lucia
For romance and luxury, relaxation and tranquility, and indulgence and beauty for all five senses, the delicious atmosphere of this enchanting island provides a perfect setting. Come for the sun and discover many other irresistible qualities of St. Lucia. With roots rich with British, French, Creole and Indian flavour, the island of St. Lucia is one of the most distinctive and captivating islands in the Caribbean.

St. Lucians love to sing and dance so outdoor festivities with excellent food choices are almost everywhere you look. With local "shak shak" bands, steel pan bands and singers and limbo dancers in many hotels and restaurants, the result may be revelry spilling into the streets. Gros Islet has a weekly "jump-up", a street party that has been known to go until the early hours of the morning.

The cuisine of St. Lucia of barbecued chicken, curries, pepperpot stew and many other flavourful treats will tempt the palate. Choose a restaurant with a patio or purchase goodies from street vendors and eat alfresco which makes it easy to enjoy the island's natural beauty while you sit at a candlelit table or stroll from one outdoor entertainer to the next.

With the Caribbean Sea on the west coast and Atlantic Ocean on the east coast, all beach and water lovers are drawn to St. Lucia. The gorgeous reefs at Anse Cochon and Anse Chastanet are just two of the spectacular areas that beginners or intermediate divers consider an extraordinary treat. Take a short dive to get a small sampling of the underwater world of tropical sea life or, for a unique perspective, try a night dive. Windsurfing around Cas en Bas and Vieux Fort is very popular, while sailing at Rodney Bay and Marigot Bay are a wonderful way to spend a day. Stop in at quaint fishing villages along the way for local sea fare or drop anchor for a rest in one of the secret coves.

The capital city of St. Lucia is Castries, which has the best shopping choices on the island. Treasure hunters will find special souvenirs and luxury goods at the Pointe Seraphine, a harbourfront complex just walking distance from Castries. For something a little more authentic, check out the 100-year-old market in Castries where you'll find crafts and woven treasures, or La Place Carenage Shopping Mall to indulge in every sort of retail therapy imaginable.

Cricket is a national obsession on St. Lucia. The National Cricket Ground at Beausejour is host to many test match games and one-day international matches. Be prepared for the locals to take the day off – virtually everything comes to a standstill as St. Lucians watch their favourite sport.
