Punta Cana
Punta Cana
The Dominican Republic is truly a gorgeous Caribbean holiday destination, and Punta Cana is benefiting from tremendous popularity with vacationers.

Punta Cana has so much to offer – for sun-seekers who like to relax to the sound of crashing waves and swaying palm trees, or for adventure hunters. Bring your golf clubs for a round at one of the prestigious courses on the island – Punta Cana has both 18- and 27-hole courses, most of which are reasonably priced for the public. Several have been designed by PGA pros Jack Nicklaus and Nick Faldo, in addition to a championship course designed by premier planner Pete Dye.

Celebrated as having the world's best beaches, the Dominican Republic's 1,000 miles of coastline is nothing short of stunning. Windsurfing, jet-skiing, sailing, boat rides, deep-sea fishing and scuba diving to explore shipwrecks are among a few of the exciting beach-based pursuits that visitors enjoy in Punta Cana. Often referred to as the "Coconut Coast" for the hundreds of swaying coconut palms as far as the eye can see, Punta Cana is also home to Los Haitises National Park, a sanctuary for nature lovers. What a great place for families! Close to Punta Cana is Isla Saona, a small, quiet island with a peaceful lagoon for swimming and snorkelling. A coral reef is situated not far off shore, which experienced scuba divers rave about. Isla Saona is an idyllic, hidden beach, perfect for any couple looking for a romantic and tranquil hideaway.

In between relaxing or adventuring, shopping is a popular pastime in Punta Cana. A distinctive keepsake from a Dominican holiday is a carnival mask from one of the cities outside of the resort areas. These gorgeous, handmade creations will make the treasure hunt worthwhile. Other fabulous items found locally are rum, cigars, coffee, blue and honey-coloured amber, and larimar – a semi-precious gemstone found only in the Dominican Republic.

Punta Cana has the greatest number of all-inclusive style resorts in the Dominican Republic, most of which offer a wide array of activities like volleyball, tennis, exercise classes, banana boats, dance lessons and kids' clubs. This makes packing for a Dominican holiday relatively easy. Just be sure to have the essentials – sunglasses, sunblock, a few summer outfits and a bathing suit – an all-inclusive resort should be able to take care of the rest!

Thousands of people travel to the Dominican Island for weddings and honeymoons each year. Resort coordinators shoulder most of the work and preparation, so there's little or no stress, planning or organizing required – a truly memorable day is a sure thing!
