Palm Springs

What do you think of when you hear the name Palm Springs? We know – most people think of golf! It is widely known that people from all over the world travel to Palm Springs just for the amazing selection of golf courses, and with good reason. The Coachella Valley boasts over 110 golf courses, many of them championship-level and host to PGA and celebrity tournaments.

Palm Springs is part of a cluster of nine cities that make up the Coachella Valley: Cathedral City, Desert Hot Springs, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, Palm Springs, Rancho Mirage and Coachella, which are all within minutes of each other. Any amenity or attraction you could want is in easy reach of the many resorts in the valley.

Step into a golden era with a modern twist. Experience the style of Hollywood's celebrated yesteryear, or fall for the atmosphere of a hip and trendy retreat. Take in the magnificent silence and solitude of the desert or immerse yourself in countless activities in a setting that can make even the most discriminating traveller kick back and unwind.

The area has been a magnet for Hollywood stars since the 1930s when Bing Crosby, Charles Farrell and Ralph Bellamy founded the area's first tennis club in Palm Springs. Since the 1950s, Palm Springs and the nearby golf clubs have been hailed as the "playground of celebrities". Frank Sinatra and his friends, including Dean Martin, Perry Como, Tony Bennett, Sammy Davis Jr., Rosemary Clooney and Connie Francis were frequent visitors in the close-knit celebrity community of the Coachella Valley in the 1950s and 1960s.

The desert is considered to be a peaceful and spiritual place to visit, but is also the setting for many other types of outdoor pleasures. The Coachella Valley Preserve is an outdoor enthusiast's dream: hiking, biking and riding trails abound, with some spectacular wildlife and scenery along the way. Joshua Tree National Park, where the Colorado and Mojave Deserts meet, is a stunning display of ecological and geological wonder, with giant twisted Joshua trees, cacti and desert fan palm surrounded by giant rock formations. The Palm Springs Aerial Tramway is a less strenuous way to see the scenic panorama unfold before your eyes.

The annual Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival takes place in Indio the last weekend of April, with music ranging from hip hop and rock to electronica to grab the attention of the younger crowd, while the Palm Springs International Film Festival every January attracts many celebrities and film buffs during the annual 10-day event.
