The Southern Rockies is a less travelled part of the Canadian Rockies. Visit many of the historic gold mining and boom towns of the past, stopping at hot springs and enjoying this backwater in the mountains. Various activity options are available.
The day by day itinerary is set as below. Travel at your leisure from one town to the next. On your first night you will be provided with maps to start this self guided itinerary.
Day 1
Arrive in Calgary. Pick up rental vehicle. (Rental must be booked separately from tour). Drive to Banff–129km, approximately 1.5 hours. Drive west through the Rockies, spend the day exploring Lake Louise and Banff National Parks. Overnight Banff
Day 2
Depart Banff drive to Fernie–327km, approximately 4.5 hours. Enjoy the Kooteney Mountains on your way to Fernie. Overnight Fernie
Day 3
Depart Fernie drive to Cranbrook and Nelson–327km, approximately 4.25 hours. Travel the unique towns of southern BC ending the journey in the town of Nelson. Overnight Nelson
Day 4
Depart Nelson drive to Hedley - 339km, approximately 4.5 hours. Explore some of the historic sites of the gold and silver rush ending the day in the overnight-built boom town of Hedley. Overnight in Hedley
Day 5
Depart Hedley drive to Vancouver – 319km, approximately 4 hours. Take the day to explore the old mining sites and witness the history of the great Canadian Gold Rush. Then travel over the Coast Mountain Ranges to Vancouver. Overnight Vancouver
Day 6
Spend the day touring around Vancouver. Overnight Vancouver.
Day 7
Depart Vancouver drive to Kamloops and Shuswap–448km, approximately 5 hours. Travel through the Fraser River delta and the Coast Mountain range on your way to Kamloops. Overnight in Shuswap
Day 8
Depart Shuswap, drive through Chase and Revelstoke to Banff (5.75hrs) 461km. Stop and visit the Glacier National Park Information Centre on the way through the Monashee and Selkirk mountains. Glimpse the hardships endured to construct this section of railway. Make stops at Emerald Lake and Lake Louise, ending your day with a tour of Banff. Overnight in Banff
Day 9
Depart Banff drive to Calgary–129km, approximately 1.5 hours. This morning plan on leaving Banff in time to drop off your car in Calgary ready for your flight home
